The day brought together members from across the diocese for a time of fellowship, reflection and celebration. Alongside the formal business of the AGM, there was a warm and lively atmosphere, with conversation flowing and stories shared - testament to the spirit of the Mothers’ Union community.
Worship was led by the Rt Revd Alastair Redfern, a former Bishop of Derby, who is now Chair of the Clewer Initiative, a Church of England-supported charity works to tackle modern slavery and support those affected by it, equipping churches to play their part in bringing hope and freedom to those whose lives have been deeply impacted.
It was a particular joy to welcome not only the current Chichester Diocesan President, Michele White of St Luke’s Church, Prestonville, Brighton, but also three former Presidents: Karen Hill, Kathryn Anderson, and Chris Emson. Their presence was a powerful reminder of the continuity and commitment that has shaped the Mothers’ Union’s work over many years.
Following the AGM, members enjoyed lunch together in the church’s community garden, which opened last year and is lovingly cared for by a dedicated team of volunteers. The garden provided a beautiful and relaxed setting for further fellowship.
The gathering concluded with a Eucharist led by the Rt Revd Dr Alastair Redfern, bringing the day to a fitting and prayerful close.
It was a joyful occasion, celebrating not only the work of the Mothers’ Union today, but also its enduring legacy of faith, service and community over 150 years.
